Emmanuel Day School's Daily Schedule

The Emmanuel Day School student may be dropped off between 8-9 am. School promptly begins at 9 am.

Children will meet with both teachers for “classes” or “Learning Areas”, in the subjects of Math, Science, Social Studies and Literacy Preparedness. Children will engage in a 15 minute lesson and will spend the remaining 15 minutes finishing a project, (recommended), or choosing a learning toy in that particular subject matter until it is time to commence to the next learning area.

Children will attend 2 classes then come together for our “Morning Meeting” (Formerly known as Circle Time), and Chapel lesson.

The children will break for 25 minutes for snack and toileting, and resume learning time in the remaining two subject areas before their outdoor recess. We firmly believe at the Emmanuel Day School that children need fresh air and the opportunity to run and play freely after a morning of fun and educational development. The Emmanuel Day School will make every effort to get outdoors to play each day. We will opt though on days of very inclement weather, or dangerously cold temperatures to limit our outdoor time or use our large auditorium for indoor play with gross motor equipment.

Children prepare for lunch with proper hand washing and partake in either a privately catered school lunch program, (A Thyme to Peas Catering, see our food policy page for more information), or a healthy lunch they bring from home. The Emmanuel Day School encourages independence wherever possible. The children in school lunch will receive a tray and serve themselves buffet-style. Children and faculty will all sit together to enjoy lunch, discussions, and model proper eating habits.

After lunch, children will clear their trays, and settle into the Story Time Area for downtime and a rest. This 30 minute window is not “naptime.” The Emmanuel Day School does not offer naps, but a time to regroup and allow our bodies a well needed rest. Books are present for independent perusal. (In addition, a daily story is read aloud).

Yoga Movement and Meditation follow story time for 30 minutes. Children need this vital part of the day. The stretching and twisting give the student daily mobility strengthening and toning, helps in the digestive process, and prepares our minds for the arts enrichment that follow. I believe that children and adults are not given enough time during the day to be still with our thoughts. These thoughts can help center us, and build our imagination cores. Children will learn a daily ritual of sitting straight up on their mat, proper breathing techniques, and basic yoga poses while listening to gentle music. Offering a daily meditation to focus on will stimulate our soul growth, foster a better relationship with God, and our spiritual development.

The afternoon concludes with Art Enrichment. A different enrichment in the arts each day makes us well-rounded and helps parents and children to know where their child’s art strengths are.

Courses in Fine Arts, Art History, Music, Drama, Culinary, Languages, Photography, etc. are just a few examples of what will be offered throughout the school year. The arts program changes from month to month, and is designed to correlate with our themes.

Dismissal is at 2:15 pm each afternoon. Children will have attended a full school day very similar to one they will encounter in the years to come.
