Emmanuel Day School Curriculum

The Emmanuel Day School has a very unique and carefully planned curriculum that is theme- based, and has proven to be quite successful for Miss Dawn over the last ten years.

This competitive, academically based curriculum allow your child to learn about, “the Classics”, in social studies, while simultaneously structuring themed science, literary, and math topics to correlate with that particular theme for each month. You might be surprised to know that children really are interested in what happened in the past and how it has shaped our future. Topics such as Medieval History, Roman Times, and the Birth of Our Nation are brought down to a level that the children can understand, enjoy, and will become seeds for future learning in the years to come!

Each day your child will receive a lesson in the subject areas of Social Studies, Science, Math, and Literacy. As explained in Our Daily Schedule the children are offered a 15 minute lesson in a room/learning area that is specific to what is being taught. The remaining 15 minutes will be spent concluding their daily project in that area or choosing an appropriate learning toy in that content area.

Each subject area is broken down into 5 learning topics. These learning topics will rotate daily each month so that children are exposed to all areas, (ex Science: Earth, space, sea, human body, nature), throughout the month and not always having the same 3 areas of study each week, if they’re scheduled to attend 3 days per week!

Each month the teachers swap instructing the 4 subject areas, and the children will be exposed to all teachers each day, as opposed to just one all morning! This is truly a unique preschool experience!

Toys consist of puzzles, globes, hands-on history materials, “scientific” starter toys such as measuring cups, pipettes, magnets, etc., sorting/organizing materials, spatial relationship development manipulative, a variety of letters and number manipulative, and a children’s library! We also offer a room strictly filled with dramatic play equipment for times when we just need imagination play. Our toys and learning materials are chosen very carefully and are all meant to provide positive learning stimulation.

The parent will receive a monthly calendar in each subject area which will also be posted at sign-in, so that you will know what is being studied in each area daily (can also be found online under This Month's Lesson Calendar).

The classes, Junior and Senior, will be divided and instructed age-appropriately, and in accordance to our monthly theme. In addition to being instructed, the Pre-K class, Seniors specifically, will be taught pre-reading skills daily, proper hand placement of writing implements, Daily letter and number drills, and phonics.

Classes will come together for our ‘Morning Meeting” …(Circle time), located in our Chapel Room, where the Head Teacher will review the daily calendar, and teach seasonal songs. Miss Dawn will conclude Morning Meeting with a topic in moral development, such as treating others respectfully, sharing, etc. and how it may relate to our lives, or to how it related to someone in Biblical history. We will also review the Christian calendar frequently, identifying important times of the year such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost, etc.

Art Enrichment each day will be scheduled to match our monthly theme. We will expose children to a variety of art mediums, music development, culinary, and language study.

A more comprehensive preschool program will be hard to come by! We are very proud to offer such a stimulating and truly fun curriculum!
